Forging Friendships 24th Oct 2008

Interview with Ian from Forging Friendships

This summer you had a uk and ireland tour with Dungeons and Every Day Hell , how was that?

The tour went really well. better than we could have hoped really. the dudes from Everyday Hell were seriously naked all the time which was well funny! All the shows had decent turnouts which i didnt really expect, so i was just stoked to be on tour. We got stopped by the cops in wales and they left us sitting on the side of the road for 3 hours until we could prove we had insurance which fucking sucked and we nearly missed the show in Colchester. Our friends Ben and Jen jumped on the tour for a few days before they flew home to denver so it was cool to see them. Everyday Hell couldnt make it over to ireland which sucked but the dungeons lads made it over and the laugh was had! We got to play a couple of shows with ritual and union town and the deal with it lp release show ruled!

Do you have any plans to tour the UK soon?

There are no plans at the moment but im sure we will sort something out after we have the the LP recorded!

When you come to the uk do you find it much different to the shows you get in ireland?

yeah there is a different vibe for sure, one of the main differences is that most of the shows in the uk are floor shows, which i love. Most of the time when we play out in ireland we get kids going crazy and stuff, especially in Dublin which rules but obviously when we play in the uk most of the people at the show will have no idea who we are, which is to be expected but then sometimes there will be kids singing along and its just the weirdest feeling ever.

whats the scene like in ireland ?
Im so stoked on the scene in Ireland at the moment. Shows are always packed, kids always go crazy, there are more touring bands than ever making it over and most importantly there are some awesome local bands, check out, first death, real talk, crowd control, another day in hell, only fumes and corpses, ended, find a way, stay rad, apes of wrath, kidd blunt, tunguska, dead wrong and like 20 bands im leaving out.

How did you guys first get together?
i had thought about singing in a band for ages and when cruise and robbie talked about doing a band i was down. me and lee were both in a band called barntown water tastes like blood at the time and i asked him if he would be up for it and he said yeah. this dude franny played drums for a while and came to the uk with us the first time we were over but things didnt work out with him and after he got to boot Jon Boyce from another day in hell joined, he is the best dude i know!

If you could go on tour with any band in the world who would it be?

The carrier or blasklisted!! i love both of those bands!

Earlier on this year you played from the heart fest in colchester, how was that?

Good times! Tom is a good mate of mine and when he asked us to play we were stoked! there were some sweet bands playing too which is alway good. black friday 29 and within walls(check out the new lp) were both amazing! i dont really remember much about our set, i think it went ok, haha. a couple of us were sitting in the van around the corner from the venue and the cops pulled up and started giving us shit they said that irish people were known for breaking into houses in the area, Haha i wonder if thats actually true??

Your also close friends with First Death, whats the story behind you guys?

i was actually the first bass player in first death. i think i played like 6 or 7 shows then i quit to do Forging Friendships. the 5 dudes in that band are 5 or my closest friends. Im in a band with zach called find a way, a band with rory called young wolves and im in a youth crew band with Gav and Chris now. So basically i see them all the time. ha i actually slept on jacks couch last night. We have played a lot of shows together and have been to the uk with them twice, ha i even put out their cd. The last time we were in the uk together they pulled over at a petrol station and bought an incredible amount of porn, ha and they like an hour later they got pulled over for a random drug search and the car was just covered in porn, it was the funniest shit ever. They are on a really long break at the moment and i really hope they dont break up.

And finaly if you could sum up the hardcore scene today in three words, what would they be?

haha fuck thats a hard one. i guess what attracts me to hardcore is the sense of family. i have met so many people from all over the world through hardcore and i know that i can go nearly anywhere in the world and i will have a floor to sleep on, so i guess i only need one word, Family.

thanks for your time, speak to you soon!

No problem at all mate! i enjoyed doing it.
