Dirty Money 19th Oct 2008

so here it is, my first interview.

Dirty money (www.myspace.com/thedirtymoney)

So earlier this year you went on tour with Trapped Under Ice and Lion of Juddah, How did it go?

It went really well. we had a lot of fun hanging out with old friends and new friends from those bands. There were ups and downs. A lot of Americans got there passports stolen in Italy, Graham got bitten by a poisonous spider and had to go to hospital. Ben LOJ got found wondering around an estate in Hull by some old lady who thought he was a drunken polish imigrant. Good stuff! We played a lot of really good shows and met a lot of really generous people.

Was it on this tour with Trapped Under Ice you decided to release a split E.P.?

Nope. The split was happening way way before tour. Basically, one day our friend H.Jenkins who used to sing in The Break In, told me about Trapped Under Ice, i checked em out, and not long after by sheer coincidence they dropped Dirty Money a message asking if we’d be up for doing a split with them. We said yes. The split was in the pressing plant while we were on tour, which wasnt cool, but we had problems meeting deadlines and that was the result.

On this tour you had a few dates up and down England and also some abroad, where do you feel you got the best reception?

I think our reception can vary, and i never assume we’re going to get a “good reception”. Living in london we take advantage of being able to get to the mainland. We have good friends in Belgium and Holland. Germany also. On that last tour, the Birmingham show was probably one of my favourtie shows for a few years. I had a good time watching all the other bands and playing. Everyone was chilling out and having a legitimate good time. Saying that, Hull was awesome. Liverpool is always awesome. Essex was crazy. Vienna was crazy.

You also played Pressure Fest this year, how was that?

It was an experience to play on such a huge stage in front of so many people. we set our merch up along side Cold World, Trapped Under Ice and Lion Of Judah. We were all waiting to see Knuckledust. That fest is soooo big, with such a mix of people. It was less like going to a basement show here, and knowing you probably have something in common with most people in the room, to being at a much bigger less personal show where you find it harder to identify with the people around you. Thats not meant to sound elitist, i think its just the nature of something so huge. Thats the most populated hardcore related event ive been to. The benefit of that is seeing people who have travelled from home to it. Lots of UK faces. I think i saw Charlie Bun Dem Out round the stage when i was playing.

You managed to release “No escaping this” on a Japan based record label, whats been the feedback you have got from Japan?

I cant remember. haha. we get the odd “please come to japan” message. id like to go, maybe with TUI. that would be sweet! i haven’t spoken to our man Tome out there for a while. we sent him the Split ep Masters so he could do a CD version, but after that initial discussion I havent heard from him.

Are you planning on going there soon for some shows?

No plans to go as yet. But maybe some day. It would be pretty cool if you ask me!

Does Dirty Money have any plans for any tours comming up?

Yes.

Iv heard rumors that there might be a tour with trapped under ice in January, are these true?

This is true. We are touring with Trapped Under Ice in January. you heard it here first.

If you could choose 3 words to sum up the hardcore scene today, what would they be?

weltschmerz, nishinga, zapp

Anyway thanks for your time, good luck in the future.

no worries, Rob.

I’d like to thank Dirty Money for the interview and you for reading.
